More Craigslist Killings As Unsuspecting Victims Respond To Ads

In 2009 Phillip Markoff made headlines all over the world. Markoff lured his victims to their death by placing ads on Craigslist. The media had a field day with this as the world sat and watched his trial unfold. Phillip Markoff soon committed suicide, but his legacy as the “Craigslist Killer” lives on. Needless to say we live in a day and age where murder is as common as drinking a cup of coffee. The internet unfortunately, has become an outlet for those who want to steal, kill and destroy.
July 2011 in Carrollton, Texas police said on 4 different occasion’s people were robbed at gun point as they went to meet up and purchase items that had been posted on Craigslist for sale. These victims were fortunate enough to only have personal effects and money taken; lately a few Craigslist ad responders were not so fortunate.

Craigslist Ads Lure Victims For Robbery And Murder Yet Again

A Craigslist ad for a farm hand job has been linked to the death of at least two men in Ohio. It’s sad that people would resort to using a website that has the intention of linking sellers and buyers; would use this as an avenue to attract individuals to rob and murder them.

From a consumer perspective I would never use Craigslist to “buy” anything. I have always thought that meeting strangers, even in well-populated areas, is very dangerous. I would much rather use sites like EBay to catch deals online. EBay is secure, PayPal friendly and depending on who you purchase from you get your items quick and as described. I’ve always had great success with EBay; I use it at least twice a week to purchase supplies for one of my businesses.

Day After Sales Are Abundant, Please Use Caution

The busiest shopping day of the year has come and gone (Black Friday), but rest assured that a lot of people will still do their best to catch sales and savings before Christmas arrives. Some will turn to the internet, including Craigslist, to try and get deals on this season’s most coveted items. Just be aware that using Craigslist can be very dangerous. If you choose to use Craigslist or any other site that might be similar instead of “meeting” the seller in person ask if the item can be mailed to you. You can also request to make your payment via PayPal which will give you the option of disputing the charge for the item if it not as described or doesn’t work once it arrives.
There are so many options to purchasing online. Please be careful this holiday season if you choose to use any online service that requires you to meet the seller in person. Unfortunately, there have been a few trusting people that responded to Craigslist ads in hopes of finding jobs and were senselessly murdered. I find it kind of ironic that the Craigslist logo is a “peace” symbol.

Many Blessings,
